A school district and a family are mourning the deaths of three teens killed in a multi-vehicle accident.
According to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office, Daniel Diaz, 15, Aben Sisk, 16, Itzel Garcia-Trejo, 17, all of Spartanburg, died April 22 after a fatal car accident at the intersection of Fairforest Clevedale Road and Old Blackstock Road.
Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said Diaz and Sisk were pronounced dead at the scene. Garcia-Trejo was taken to the Spartanburg Medical Center, where she later died.
The three teens all attended Dorman High School.
“Three lives, full of promise and potential, are gone far too soon,” Spartanburg County School District Six officials said in a statement released on April 23. “There are no words to express the grief their families and our entire school community are experiencing. Our hearts are shattered and the weight of this loss echoes throughout our hallways and classrooms this morning.”
The accident happened at about 4 p.m. when the 2004 Dodge pickup truck the teens were in collided with a tractor-trailer, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway. A person in a 2010 Chevrolet was also injured and was being treated at the Spartanburg Regional Hospital. They were not identified.
According to Ridgeway, the tractor-trailer attempted to turn onto Fairforest Clevedale Road when the pickup truck carrying the teens hit the trailer portion of the 18-wheeler. The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.

The school district said it will have counselors and support staff available to students and staff.
“Much like families do in times of grief, we will lean on one another for strength, comfort, and healing. We ask that you keep the families of Aben, Daniel, and Itzel in your thoughts and prayers as they face this overwhelming loss.”
