Starting in October, Spirit Airlines will be servicing Middle Georgia. The first route? Fort Lauderdale.

The Florida-based airline announced July 17 a partnership with Contour Airlines to offer nonstop, twice-weekly flights between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Middle Georgia Regional Airport (MCN) in Macon.

“South Florida has consistently been one of the most popular destinations for travelers in our region, and we’re excited to offer nonstop service to this top destination through Spirit Airlines,” said Doug Faour, Macon-Bibb County Director of Aviation. “This new route reflects our ongoing commitment to providing convenient and affordable travel options for the communities we serve.”

Introductory fares starting at $49.99 one-way are now available for booking at spirit.com.

Spirit has a trough time the last few months, with a plane evacuated in Detroit over a bomb threat and a viral video in May showing cockroaches on a flight. The airline recently emerged from bankruptcy and shook up its board, appointing Dave Davis as its new chief executive officer.

Spirit had plans to merge with JetBlue but the plan was scrapped in 2024 after the U.S. Department of Justice sued to block it.

Where is the new Spirit route in Florida?

Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Macon (MCN), twice weekly, starting Oct. 16, 2025.

Spirit changes fare options

Last month, Spirit reworked its ticket lineup to emphasize that the budget airline offers high-value options as well.

The new names are easier to understand and a bit more straightforward. “Spirit First,” instead of the former “Go Big,” for its premium “Big Front Seats,” for example, and “Value” instead of “Go.” The budget airline’s “Go Savvy” option will be phased out, the company said in a release.

The change came a few months after Spirit updated its loyalty program and started offering extra legroom seating for the “Go Comfy” ticketholders (now called “Premium Economy”).

Which Florida airports does Spirit fly out of?

Spirit currently services the following Florida airports:
