A woman is accused of stabbing her stepfather to death in northwest Rochester this week, according to police.
Gary Morgan, 49, of Rochester was stabbed multiple times near Dewey and Driving Park avenues in Rochester on Wednesday, Aug. 27, after an argument with his stepdaughter, said Capt. Frank Umbrino of the Rochester Police Department. Morgan was taken by private vehicle to the St. Mary’s Medical Campus, 89 Genesee St., where he was pronounced dead.
Keyanna Richards, 31, was charged with second-degree murder in connection with Morgan’s death, Umbrino said. She is accused of stabbing Morgan multiple times after he “confronted Richards over items she stole from his apartment,” Umbrino said.
Richards, who police said they believe is from Rochester, moved out of the area and recently returned. She was taken into custody following a vehicle stop on Thursday, Aug. 28, by the United States Marshal’s Violent Felony Fugitive Task Force, Umbrino said.
Richards is also facing two outstanding out-of-state burglary warrants – one out of Florida for burglary and assault and one out of Illinois for burglary and home invasion, according to police. She is set to be arraigned on both warrants and the murder charge in City Court on Friday, Aug. 29.
Morgan’s death marked Rochester’s 24th homicide of 2025, according to RPD’s Open Data Portal.
