A large storm system that rolled into the state Sept. 22-23 centered on Northern Colorado, dropping the season’s first significant snow on the northern mountains and ski areas and more than an inch of rain over a widespread area of the I-25 corridor and beyond.
Many city of Fort Collins-monitored rain gauges measured more than an inch of rain throughout the city. The highest recorded amount was 24-hour total of 1.73 inches recorded at Fossil Creek Reservoir near I-25 and Carpenter Road as of the morning of Sept. 24. That gauge recorded 1.93 inches over the previous three days.
The city’s official weather station on the main campus of CSU recorded 1.45 inches over the two days, including 1.22 inches on Sept. 23. It was the most precipitation in a single day since Feb. 3, 2024, according to the Colorado Climate Center data.
Some areas around Greeley saw 2 inches or more of rain.
Fort Collins generally sees its first snow near the end of October.

Fort Collins forecast for rest of the week is getting-outside weather
Fort Collins will see a quick warmup after a chilly high temperature of 56 degrees Sept. 23.
If you have plans to take a drive to see the peaking fall colors in the northern mountains, take in local football teams playing in the Canvas Community Classic on Sept. 26 or the CSU Rams hosting Washington State at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in a football game at Canvas Stadium, you will have beautiful weather.

Sept. 26: Sunny, with a high near 84. West wind around 6 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Low around 49.
Sept. 27: Sunny, with a high near 78 and low around 49.
Sept. 28: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80 and low around 52.
