The real estate market has been anything but predictable since COVID-19, but that tumultuousness may soon reach a new high with uncertainty on the stock market.
Buyers who scooped up new homes in March may have lucked out — or paid the highest prices in years if a recession strikes. No one knows.
But what we do know judging by these Central Jersey sales is that multimillion dollar buyers fetched some seriously jaw-dropping homes last month, ranging from a Colonial made for entertaining to a historic residence that hit the market for the first time in more than 50 years.
Here are some of the priciest home sales in each Central Jersey county in March.
A $1.65 million refined Clinton Township farmhouse
Indoor pools, fish ponds: Inside the most expensive Central Jersey homes sold in February
High-end Hunterdon County homes are all about refined country living, and that’s exactly what 31 Chalfonte Drive in Clinton Township offered when it sold for $1.65 million on March 14.
It went under contract for nearly $200,000 over-ask with real estate agent Susan Komorowski, with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach, two weeks after hitting the market. It sold for about half its 2025 price two decades ago.
With a brick porch wrapping halfway around the house, the estate is a picture of contemporary charm that also offers bucolic views thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows in the family room.
The primary suite is a respite with a colossal bathroom with soaking tub, sitting area and private deck. Four more bedrooms, five full bathrooms and two half bathrooms round out the house.
Downstairs, it also offers a recreation room, media room, wet bar and extra room that could be used as a sixth bedroom.
A $3 million historic Bernardsville estate
Celebrity homes: Former NJ Devils hockey player’s Westfield home hits the market for nearly $2.7 million
After hitting the market for the first time in more than 50 years, one historic Bernardsville estate fetched $3 million when it sold on March 28 while represented by Carolyn Fahey with Fahey Realtors.
With nine bedrooms and six bathrooms, the 6,000-square-foot Appleton House at 431 Claremont Road sits on 14 acres at the highest point in Somerset County. Built in 1898, it features a Georgian-style classic sophistication with intricate moldings, columns and rounded lines.
The home has a living room with high ceilings and a fireplace, a covered semicircle-shaped veranda showcasing views of the property, a dining room that opens to a sunroom, a study, and an eat-in kitchen with a butler’s pantry.
Also on the property is a carriage house, a pool, tennis courts and a hidden solar panel field.
The home took some time and a price drop to sell, as it spent five months on the market and sold for $150,000 less than it was listed for.
A $3.75 million commanding Summit Colonial
Family first: These NJ towns were just ranked among the best in the country to raise kids
The wow-factor of a Colonial-style Summit estate that sold for $3.75 million thanks to Kim Cannon with Prominent Properties is evident from the first look of the commanding facade — but it doesn’t stop there.
With five bedrooms and seven bathrooms, the gut-renovated home at 18 Dorchester Road features a custom kitchen, dining room with hickory build-ins, sunroom, two family rooms with gas fireplaces and bars, and a primary suite with a private balcony.
A finished, climate-controlled 3½-car garage also has a car washing station. Outside, a heated patio is surrounded by a fire pit, hot tub, kitchen and smoker.
The mansion first hit the market in late October for $100,000 more than it sold for on March 10. It last sold more than two decades ago for less than $1 million.

Offering a mix of both modernity and timeless refinement, a new Edison mansion sold for $1.875 million on March 13. That’s $75,000 more than it was listed for in August.
With six bedrooms and 4½ bathrooms, the sale of 2 Hemlock Drive was represented by Sheetal Chhabra with Keller Williams Elite Realtors.
Just a few of the house’s high-end details include 10-foot ceilings, tall Pella windows, a finished basement, and a kitchen with stainless steel Thermador and Z line appliances, quartzite countertops and custom cabinetry.
The home is fully connected to smart technology with Lutron switches controlled by an app, and smart toilets with heated seats, self-cleaning capabilities and remote controls.
