A drop in temperatures across Massachusetts on Wednesday night could result in some areas possibly seeing frost.
Skies should be calm and cloud-free, according to the National Weather Service. With overnight temperatures dropping as low as the mid-30s, most of Western and northern Central Massachusetts could see freezing temperatures.
Because of this, frost zones could start to see materialization at around 12 a.m., forecasters said. Low dewpoints likely mean not much frost on the ground, and forecasters have held off from issuing any frost advisories.
Some of these areas could see some precipitation, with Pittsfield expected to receive less than one-tenth of an inch, forecasters said. Great Barrington could see the same amount, while Greenfield and Springfield hold low chances of seeing any precipitation.
Southern and central parts of Central Massachusetts, like Worcester, are not expected to see any frost but could still see less than one-tenth of an inch of precipitation, according to the weather service.
Conditions should continue to be in the mid-70s and dry on Thursday, forecasters said. The Connecticut River Valley should see highs in the upper 70s, while coastal communities could be in the high 50s or low 60s.
“Winds tomorrow remain light, eventually turning southerly late in the day,” forecasters wrote about Thursday. “This should help alleviate fire weather concerns with the low dewpoints tomorrow.”
Friday should see the return of unsettled weather as showers bring rain in the morning, with some potential for lightning, forecasters said. Thunderstorms between Western and Central Massachusetts are possible in the afternoon until sundown. Daytime temperatures should stay warm in the 70s.
This might not be the last of the rain, as Saturday is expected to see a washout, forecasters said. The timing remains unclear, though it’s expected that rain could develop again in the early afternoon.
