Plus-size clothing chain Torrid is set to close up to 180 “underperforming” stores this year, making it the latest retailer to shrink its brick-and-mortar footprint.
Impending closures are a part of the chain’s move to a “more digitally-led business,” CEO Lisa Harper said in a June 5 news release. Harper said closures will allow the retailer to “reduce fixed costs and reinvest in areas that drive long-term growth,” noting that 70% of Torrid’s customers shop online.
Torrid operates 632 total stores, after closing two earlier this year, the release said.
