A tragic two-vehicle crash on the evening of July 4 claimed the lives of a Crawfordville woman and her teenage passenger, according to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report.

The collision occurred around 6:18 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 98 and Port Leon Drive. FHP investigators say a sedan traveling northbound on Port Leon Drive failed to yield the right of way and was struck by a westbound pickup truck towing a boat trailer on U.S. 98.

The impact of the T-bone collision was fatal for both occupants of the sedan. A 50-year-old woman, the driver, was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Her 15-year-old passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. Both victims were from Crawfordville and were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Their next of kin have been notified.

The pickup truck was occupied by a 36-year-old Crawfordville man, a 34-year-old Tallahassee man, and two children, ages 13 and 2. None of the truck’s occupants sustained injuries, according to the report.

The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, Wakulla County Fire Rescue, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

The crash remains under investigation.
