FRENCHTOWN TWP., MI — A crash involving vehicles from the Michigan Department of Transportation left one dead at the scene.
At 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, troopers from the Michigan State Police Monroe Post were dispatched to a crash in the area of I-75 near I-275 in Frenchtown Township. The crash involved a semi-truck that struck two MDOT vehicles.
Preliminary investigation showed that MDOT workers were working on patching the left lane of I-75. The road crew had two MDOT attenuator vehicles behind the crew, which are vehicles outfitted with an impact protection system. A semi with a trailer ran into the back of one of the attenuator vehicles, jackknifed, and struck a second, according to Michigan State Police post on X. The crash caused the semi-truck’s contents, aluminum cans, to spill on the road. The driver, a man of unknown age or hometown, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Several MDOT workers sustained minor injuries. It’s unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. It’s also unknown if the truck driver was wearing his seatbelt.
The investigation is ongoing and that area of I-75 will be closed for an unknown amount of time while troopers and officers from the MSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division investigate the crash.
