It appears President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance will attend a fundraiser for Republican candidate for Florida governor U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds at Mar-a-Lago on May 1.
After feting Donalds, Trump then seems poised to spend the weekend at his Palm Beach home, returning to Washington, D.C., on May 4, according to notices posted by the Federal Aviation Administration to notify pilots that temporary flight restrictions are coming for the Palm Beach area.
This would be Trump’s 10th weekend at his Mar-a-Lago Club since taking office Jan. 20.
The FAA recently issued a pair of “VIP Movement” notifications, one for Vance for May 1 and another for Trump for May 1-4. While the notices do not specifically mention Trump or Vance, the flight restrictions included in the notice for each are of the level used for vice presidential or presidential travel, and the presidential-level notice matches previous ones posted ahead of Trump’s visits to his Mar-a-Lago Club.
Trump’s return would mean the closure of South Ocean Boulevard next to Mar-a-Lago, which is mandated by the U.S. Secret Service. The road shuts down from the Southern Boulevard traffic circle to the intersection with South County Road each time Trump is home.
The May 1 fundraiser for Donalds was first reported in March by E.W. Scripps’ Forrest Saunders. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a poolside cocktail reception, with dinner at 7 p.m., according to an invitation Saunders posted on social media.
Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) shakes hands with former U.S. President Donald Trump during the Moms for Liberty Joyful Warriors national summit at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown on June 30, 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Donalds announced on Feb. 25 that he will run for governor of the Sunshine State, with the seat up for grabs in 2026. Gov. Ron DeSantis cannot run again because of term limits. Donalds represents Florida’s 19th Congressional district, which includes much of Southwest Florida.
Donalds’ campaign and Friends of Byron Donalds, a committee formed to support his candidacy, are hosting the Mar-a-Lago fundraiser, according to the invitation. The cost per person is $3,000 to attend the cocktail reception and $50,000 to attend the cocktail reception and dinner.
Trump endorsed Donalds’ bid for Florida governor in a Feb. 20 post on Truth Social.
“As Governor, Byron would have a BIG Voice, and would work closely with me to advance our America First Agenda,” Trump wrote. “He will fight tirelessly to Secure our Border, Stop Migrant Crime, Strengthen our Military, Protect our Vets, Restore our Economic Power, Advance American Energy DOMINANCE, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment.
“Byron Donalds would be a truly Great and Powerful Governor for Florida and, should he decide to run, will have my Complete and Total Endorsement,” Trump added. “RUN, BYRON, RUN!”
According to an expenditures report on the Friends of Byron Donalds website, the committee paid $68,929.40 to the Mar-a-Lago Club on April 21.
