Nearly six years after a Pompano Beach man was shot dead, two men are facing first-degree murder charges in his killing, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Benson Blaise, 32, and Derrick Jules, 32, were indicted by a grand jury in August in the killing of Clarens Calixte, 32, at a home in Pompano Beach, court records show.
Deputies had responded to a call about 3 a.m. on Dec. 20, 2019 and discovered Calixte, unresponsive, with a gunshot wound. Fire Rescue took him to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead.
Homicide detectives identified Blaise and Jules as the suspects through “extensive investigative work,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a media release. The release did not provide further information as to a motive for the killing. Both Jules and Blaise are also charged with robbery with a firearm in connection to the same case.
Blaise was already in Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail on unrelated charges, according to the release. On Wednesday, U.S. Marshals and BSO deputies found Jules in Tampa and took him into custody. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, the Sheriff’s Office said.
