A weather system over the northern Great Lakes is pushing a cold front into Middle Tennessee, bringing a few showers and storms.
According to the Storm Prediction Center, isolated strong winds could affect areas from the Northeast down to the southern Appalachians and Tennessee Valley, mainly from late morning through the afternoon Sept. 4.
The system could cause storms to strengthen throughout the day, especially around East Tennessee, added the center.
Storms have the potential for damaging winds and small hail. Additional storm clusters could form along a cold front, but weak atmospheric conditions will likely limit their intensity, said the center.

As a cold front moves south through the afternoon, rain and thunderstorm chances will increase, especially in areas south and east of Nashville, said the National Weather Service.
Some storms could produce strong wind gusts up to 60 mph and heavy rain, but flooding isn’t expected due to fast-moving storms. Storms will likely fade by 9 p.m., leading to dry conditions, added the weather service.
Another stronger cold front will arrive late Sept. 5-6, bringing more rain and a few storms, with a small chance of gusty winds during the early evening hours Sept. 5.
Sept. 6 will be cooler with highs in the 70s, said the weather service.
Following the cold front, “quiet and cooler weather” is expected early next week. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s with some locations making to around 80, Sept. 7-8.

Sept 7: Sunny, with a high near 80 then mostly clear, with a low around 51 at night.
Sept. 8: Sunny, with a high near 81 then mostly clear, with a low around 53 at night.
Sept. 9: Sunny, with a high near 87 then mostly clear, with a low around 58 at night.
Sept. 10: Sunny, with a high near 88.
