More interstate ramp closures are coming to Interstate 80/35 near Hickman Road/U.S. Highway 6 in the coming days.
The closures are part of a $94 million project to replace the I-80/I-35 and Hickman Road interchange. Earlier in April, the southbound on-ramp at Exit 125 and the off-ramp to University Avenue closed and will remain closed through mid-August, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation.
The traffic volume in the area is expected to increase nearly 35% by 2042.
What I-80/35 ramps are closed for the Hickman Road interchange construction?
Starting May 5, the northbound on-ramp from Hickman Road to I-80/35 will close. The northbound off-ramp from I-80/I-35 to Douglas Avenue (Exit 126B) also will close.
Both ramps will remain closed until mid-August, according to the Iowa DOT.

When the ramps are closed, there will be a marked detour route.
Drivers trying to reach northbound I-80/35 from Hickman Road should head east on Hickman Road, turn right onto 128th Street and then left onto Douglas Avenue and enter the interstate there.
Drivers needing to reach Douglas Avenue from northbound I-80/35 should continue north and exit at Meredith Drive (Exit 127A), turn left and return to I-80/35 southbound to exit at Douglas Avenue.
