Two police officers were slightly injured and several police cars damaged during a car chase in southern Germany on Wednesday.

The pursuit began after a 46-year-old man fled a traffic check, police said. He was chased across the Bavarian districts of Weilheim-Schongau and Starnberg by six police cars and a helicopter. Even after police fired at his vehicle and hit a tyre, he initially managed to evade capture.

During the chase, his car collided twice with police vehicles. The pursuit finally ended in the town of Monatshausen when he crashed and was unable to continue driving. He was unharmed.

The man was taken into custody and faces multiple charges.
