Two sessions remaining for Water Safety Month

Must read

As temperatures rise and pools become the go-to destination for family fun, Greenville Fire-Rescue reminds residents that drowning is quick, silent and preventable.

To promote water safety and raise awareness during Water Safety Month, GFR has kicked off its annual “Swim Smart” series – a three-week educational event aimed at keeping families safe this swimming season.

Did you know drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 4 and under and ranks second for children 5-14? Every day, 11 people die from unintentional drowning in the U.S. and the majority happen quietly in family pools.

The series began on Thursday at Fletcher Warren Civic Center (5501 Business Highway 69 South) and continues the next two Thursdays with sessions on “Recognizing Pool Emergencies and Hands-Only CPR (presented by Hunt County AMR/EMS) and on May 22 with “Boating and Lake Safety (presented by Texas game warden).

Each session is free and includes valuable information, practical safety tips, a complimentary light meal and fun door prizes.

Pre-registration is encouraged to help with meal planning both online at https://gfdtx.online/SwimSmartGVL or by calling (903) 457-3150.
