Two unrestrained children die in a car crash Thursday in Schriever.
A 12-year-old and 6-year-old were killed in the crash just after 4 p.m. Thursday, June 5, on LA 311 near Fellowship Lane. Neither was wearing a seatbelt, according to a news release from Louisiana State Police.
Cherri Breaux was driving a 1999 Toyota Camry traveling south on LA Hwy 311, the release said. At the same time, a 2023 Kenworth was traveling north.
For reasons still under investigation, Breaux turned left into a driveway but entered the path of the approaching Kenworth and was struck on the right side.
The Camry had four passengers: Breaux, the two deceased, and a juvenile. All four were unrestrained, and all were rushed to hospitals. The 12-year-old and 6-year-old died at the hospital. Breaux sustained minor injuries, while one juvenile passenger sustained moderate injuries.
The driver of the Kenworth was properly restrained and uninjured.
A standard toxicology sample was collected from Breaux and submitted for analysis. The driver of the Kenworth voluntarily submitted a breath test, which showed no alcohol.
The crash is still under investigation, the release said.
