Aug. 29—Hundreds of volunteers are expected to disperse across Morgan County on Sept. 9 to complete 22 community projects during the annual United Way Day of Caring.
“From landscaping and painting to organizing resources and providing hands-on assistance, the projects represent the heart of United Way’s mission — mobilizing the caring power of our community,” said Kaylee Tidwell, with United Way of Morgan County.
“The 2025 Day of Caring is one of the largest community volunteer events and it’s the kickoff to our 2026 campaign year,” said Kimberly Ray, president and CEO of the United Way of Morgan County.
The United Way will start the day at 7:45 a.m. at GE Appliances, 2328 Point Mallard Drive S.E. in Decatur, with a Chick-fil-A breakfast, Tidwell said. There volunteers can pick up Day of Caring T-shirts.
This will be followed by the official launch of United Way’s 2026 campaign, “United is the Way.” The event will highlight the power of community partnerships and set the tone for a day dedicated to service and impact.
“Day of Caring brings our community together in such a powerful way,” Ray said. “It’s an opportunity to roll up our sleeves, work side by side and create lasting change for our neighbors.”
Jennifer Geiger, United Way’s director of Resource Development, Day of Carin projects include sorting clothing and exterior beautification at Everyday Sunshine, transitional housing cleanup at The Salvation Army, facility repairs at The Arc of Morgan County, landscaping help at Crisis Services of North Alabama, outdoor cleaning at Mental Health Center of North Central Alabama, and deep cleaning and maintenance at Community Free Clinic.
The 2025 campaign theme, “United is the Way,” emphasizes the organization’s commitment to building a stronger Morgan County through its goals — ensuring successful children, empowered families and resilient communities.
A disco dance event to benefit the United Way will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 6 at Cross-Eyed Owl Brewing in downtown Decatur. Cost of Disco for a Difference is $10 at the door. There will be prizes for the best dressed.
