Victim of deadly shooting at Victorville park identified as Adelanto man

A man found shot to death at a park in Victorville on Friday morning has been identified as a 40-year-old Adelanto resident, authorities said.

Robert James Smith died in the shooting, which was first reported about 6:20 a.m. at Village Park, 15790 Eto Camino Lane, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s officials.

“Deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to a man down call at Village Park,” the sheriff’s department said in a written statement. “Upon arriving, deputies located Robert Smith on the ground by his vehicle, with gunshot wounds. Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

No further details, including a description of the killer or killers, were available.

A motive in the shooting was also unclear.
