Water main break shuts down Brighton Ave. near Portland-Westbrook line

Must read

Apr. 24—Portland police are asking the public to avoid the westbound lanes of Brighton Avenue because of a water main break.

The break occurred near where the road crosses the Maine Turnpike, the department said in a post on social media. Drivers traveling west are urged to instead use Rand Road.

“Please avoid the area as it appears this will not be resolved until late this evening,” the department said.

A spokesperson for the department did not immediately return a call requesting details about the break, including how far the leaking water is spreading.
