Waymo advises customers about weekend delays due to ‘No Kings’ events

Must read

Waymo is advising its customers to expect service delays the weekend of June 14 due to the slate of “No Kings” protests that were scheduled to take place across metro Phoenix.

Members of the Waymo One rider program received an email that said the company was taking “heightened safety measures” due to the “local protests” to keep riders safe.

Waymo said this would result in longer wait times, modified routes, or temporary service interruptions.

Waymo operates across 315 square miles in the metro Phoenix area. The area covers much of Phoenix, all of Tempe, most of Scottsdale and portions of Mesa and Chandler.

The company advised people to check the application for updates and said they would resume full service as soon as it was “safe to do so in accordance with local guidance.”

Thousands of “No Kings” demonstrations against President Donald Trump were expected to take place on June 14 across the country and in Arizona. It coincided with Trump’s birthday and a parade marking the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Army. Trump will take a prominent role at the event, which could cost taxpayers some $25 million to $40 million.

A large crowd had already gathered on the morning of June 14 on the Capitol grounds in Phoenix for the demonstration. Protests were also planned in nearby cities like Scottsdale, Tempe, Chandler, Surprise and Mesa.
