RICHMOND, Ind. — A local man is accused of smuggling a controlled substance into the Wayne County jail and sharing it with fellow inmates.
Jakob Michael Wayne Gaddis, 25, of Dublin, was charged in recent days in Wayne Superior Court 1 with dealing in a controlled substance, a Level 5 felony carrying up to six years in prison, and possession of a controlled substance, a Level 6 felony with a maximum 30-month sentence.
Detectives with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department on April 10 began investigating reports that Gaddis had brought strips of buprenorphine — a synthetic opioid — to the jail when he arrived there in March.
On March 10, he had been sentenced to a year in jail after pleading guilty to dealing in marijuana.
Some fellow prisoners told investigators Gaddis had given them small doses of the drug. One said the Dublin man had told him “he had enough strips (of buprenorphine) to last him the entirety of his incarceration,” according to an affidavit.
A jail captain told detectives several of the strips were found in Gaddis’ possession when he was searched on April 10.
