Let me get this straight. If I go to the Apostle Islands to enjoy nature and get a little respite from my chaotic life, I will be tasked, by a posted sign, to report “any signs or other information that are negative about either past or living Americans that fail to emphasize the beauty, grandeur, and abundance of landscapes and other natural features” (“Apostle Islands signs ask to report anti-American views,” June 30).
Got it. So, if someone says to me, or shows me a book or newspaper or piece of paper that denounces any American like, oh, Al Capone, or Richard Nixon, or Ronald Reagan, I should be reported?
To whom? The Gestapo? The deep state? My barber?
What we now have to keep repeating is the mantra “This is not fascism!” over and over and we will feel better. Trust me. Have I ever lied to you?
Opinion: A Fourth of July list of grievances from overworked, unrepresented America
By the way, I’ve been there. The Apostle Islands are beautiful, grandeur-ish, and have abundant landscapes and other natural features — please don’t arrest me.
