With the first chill in the air and the approach of Labor Day, many people in Wisconsin prepare for the shift from long, sunny days to sweater weather and earlier nights. This year’s days of beaches and sunburns are rapidly dwindling.
But when, to you, is the first day of fall?
Astronomically speaking, the autumnal equinox — when the sun is directly above the equator, and day and night are equal lengths — annually falls between Sept. 21 and 24. This year, it’ll be Monday, Sept. 22.
But if you ask a meteorologist, they might describe the first day of fall as Sept. 1, because they track seasons in three-month chunks of time, for simplicity’s sake.
We want to hear from you. What do you think signifies the beginning of autumn?
Is it school starting again? Sunsets before 8 p.m.? The start of Green Bay Packers season? When the leaves begin to change colors? Something else?
Let us know in the survey below! We’ll report back on the results.
