A heat wave continues to bake parts of upstate New York, with temperatures climbing into the 90s and heat advisories now issued for some regions. Relief is on the horizon — but not before mid-week.
Heat advisory issued for parts of NY
The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a heat advisory for parts of St. Lawrence, Franklin, and Clinton counties. The advisory begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, and will remain active for 24 hours.
Forecasters are warning residents in these areas — and much of upstate New York — to take precautions, as heat index values could make it feel significantly hotter than actual air temperatures.
When will the heat break?
The hottest days of the stretch are expected to be Monday and Tuesday, with highs in the low to mid-90s across western and northern New York. In other areas, including parts of the Hudson Valley and Capital Region, temperatures will remain in the upper 80s to around 90 through Wednesday.
However, cooler air is expected to move in later in the week. By Thursday and Friday, highs should dip by several degrees, bringing some much-needed relief across the state.

Western & Northern NY: Highs in the 90s through Tuesday; slight cooling begins Wednesday.
Albany & Hudson Valley: Highs around 90 expected through Wednesday; mid-80s likely by Thursday.
Statewide Outlook: Gradual cooling trend starting mid-week, with more seasonable temperatures arriving by the weekend.
