A Mount Pleasant man was arrested after a 21-year-old woman reported being held captive for a week and repeatedly sexually assaulted, according to Michigan State Police.
Troopers from the Mount Pleasant Post responded on Aug. 30 to a Union Township business after the women reported the assault, the agency said in a Sept. 3 post on X. The victim told police that a homeless man living in a tent had threatened her with a weapon before she eventually managed to escape and contact authorities.
Police located the suspect, 22-year-old William Paul Thompson, and found evidence supporting the victim’s account.
Thompson was arraigned on Sept. 2 in Isabella County Court on multiple felony charges, including first-degree criminal sexual conduct, unlawful imprisonment, felonious assault with a dangerous weapon and two weapons violations.
