Woman arrested in Warren after hitting people, parked cars in Jeep, police say

Must read

A woman driving a 2019 Jeep Compass with her child in the car was taken into custody after striking multiple people at several locations along Van Dyke Avenue, north of 12 Mile Road, on Friday night, Sept. 26, according to Warren police.

The woman then drove into a Walmart parking lot, where she attempted to strike more people with her car but only caused property damage, Lt. John Gajewski said in an email to the Free Press on Sept. 27.

The Compass fled from officers through the parking lot, but was stopped after striking two parked vehicles, Gajewski said. The woman bit and kicked an officer as she was taken into custody, Gajewski said.

None of the pedestrians or officers were seriously injured, Gajewski said. The child, who was unharmed, was released to other family members.

The incident remains under investigation, Gajewski said, but authorities suspect the driver may have been experiencing a mental health crisis.
