A 43-year-old woman was killed in a boating accident at Lake Pueblo State Park on July 19, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW).
In a news release, CPW officials said the woman was involved in an accident “involving a powered watercraft and contact with the engine propeller” around 4 p.m. near Denver Cove, which is located mid-lake near the north shore.
Park rangers were alerted to the incident by a 911 call. A ranger patrol boat responded to the scene to escort the boat with the victim to the North Shore Marina, where additional park rangers and Pueblo West firefighters were waiting to render aid, according to the release.
Firefighters attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has not yet been publicly identified by the Pueblo County Coroner’s Office and the circumstances of the incident are under investigation.
“CPW offers condolences to the family and friends of the victim and everyone involved in the incident,” Lake Pueblo State Park Manager Joe Stadterman said in the release.
