The now ex-wife of a Cleburne man sentenced in late June on child sexual assault charges has also been charged.
Dustin Eric Rubio of Cleburne was sentenced to a total of 733 years in prison after being found guilty on 11 charges associated with sexual assault of a child.
On Thursday, 37-year-old Kayla Dee Rubio, who was married to Dustin Rubio at the time of his arrest, was sentenced. She pled guilty to all her charges, which included:
— One count of tampering with a witness, 40 years
— Two counts of tampering with physical evidence with intent to impair, 10 years each
— Two counts of abandoning or endangering a child, two years each
All sentences will run concurrently, resulting in a 40-year term.
After Dustin Rubio’s arrest, Kayla Rubio tried to get the child to recant the outcry. She also admitted to destroying evidence, Johnson County Assistant District Attorney Matthew Station said.
“This sentence reflects the outcome of a comprehensive investigation led by Cleburne Police Department detectives,” CPD officials posted on their Facebook page. “Their professionalism and persistence played a vital role in bringing this case forward.”
The DA’s office in turn thanked the investigators and prosecutors Christy May and Staton for working tirelessly on the case.
