Sep. 12—WILKES-BARRE TWP. — A Wilkes-Barre woman known by two names wanted on an arrest warrant by Pittston City police for delivering fentanyl that resulted in the overdose death of her friend was captured by Wilkes-Barre Township police on Thursday.
Cassie Zambetti, 41, also known as Cassie Stanton, had been wanted since Aug. 27 when police in Pittston charged her with delivering fentanyl to Martina Wheeler on Sept. 5, 2023, according to court records.
Wheeler was found dead inside her Pittston residence on Pine Street on Sept. 6, 2023. An autopsy revealed Wheeler died from fentanyl toxicity, court records say.
Court records allege police in Pittston discovered a series of text messages on Wheeler’s cellular phone about Zambetti to pick up fentanyl she delivered to Wheeler.
An arrest warrant was issued for Zambetti on Aug. 27 charging her with drug delivery resulting in death, involuntary manslaughter, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal use of communication facility.
Zambetti was captured by Wilkes-Barre Township police who charged her with unlawful possession of instruments, false identification, resisting arrest, retail theft and possession instruments of crime.
Zambetti was booked into the Luzerne County Correctional Facility late Thursday night.
District Judge Ferris Webby of Wright Township arraigned Zambetti on the separate criminal complaints and jailed her without bail seeming her a flight risk and a danger to society.
