Occupants of two Prospect homes are displaced after officials learned Sunday that part of the land the homes sit on is sliding into nearby Harrods Creek, Louisville Metro Emergency Services spokesperson Monica Harkins said in a news release.
Anchorage Middletown Fire Department assessed the area in the 8700 block of Lynnhall Court and told the occupants the homes are currently unsafe for occupancy. The department also informed LG&E about the situation because of an electrical pole on the impacted land, which ultimately fell Sunday evening, Harkins said.
Emergency Services officials are working with the Natural Resources Conservation Services — part of the United States Department of Agriculture — to develop a plan to mitigate the issue and improve the soil’s stability, Harkins said.
Emergency Services Executive Director Jody Meiman is communicating with the homeowners about the process, and the American Red Cross will help the affected families find shelter in the meantime, officials said.
The displacement comes as Louisville recovers from a bout of historic flooding. The Ohio River reached its highest point since 1997 Wednesday, inundating several communities situated near the riverbanks.
