LMPD confirms woman found dead in South Louisville was previously reported missing

Louisville Metro Police officials confirmed May 9 that a woman found dead near the Buechel neighborhood May 7 was a person previously reported missing.

Police found Latasha White, 49, of Louisville, in the 4400 block of Newport Road around 4:15 p.m. May 7 and determined she had been shot, LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell previously said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

LMPD spokesperson Aaron Ellis said White’s employer requested a welfare check April 30 after she did not show up to work. There was no response when an officer went to her residence, and the officer found no signs of foul play, Ellis said.

A missing person’s report filed May 1 by White’s sibling states she was last seen or heard from April 28, according to a copy of the report provided by LMPD.

The report was assigned May 2 to a detective who contacted the family to gather more information, Ellis said. During this process, investigators learned White had removed security cameras from her home while she was home alone in the early morning hours of April 29, Ellis said.

“Based on the information provided, LMPD had no legal authority to conduct any further searches of her home, her phone or any other personal property,” Ellis said in a statement.

“We recognize that this is a difficult time for Latasha White’s family. We will now focus our efforts on finding the person or persons responsible for her death and bringing closure to her family,” he said.

People with information about the case are encouraged to call LMPD’s anonymous tip line at 574-5673.
