Overnight road improvement projects could cause delays across Okaloosa, Walton counties

Motorists traveling through Okaloosa and Walton counties the week of April 13-17 should prepare for overnight traffic disruptions as crews continue a series of construction and maintenance projects.

The Florida Department of Transportation said that all activities are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in inclement weather. Drivers are urged to use extra caution, especially at night, and to be mindful of workers and equipment entering and exiting roadways.

Walton County

U.S. 331 Resurfacing Project

Nighttime lane closures along U.S. 331 from just south of Interstate 10 to U.S. 90, April 13-17, between 7:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. A temporary closure of the inside northbound left turn lane onto U.S. 90 westbound is in effect. One left-turn lane and one right-turn lane remain open during this phase, which is expected to last through early May.

U.S. 331 Bridge Maintenance

Routine maintenance work on the U.S. 331 bridge over Choctawhatchee Bay will result in intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. April 14 through April 16.

Okaloosa County

Brooks Bridge Replacement Project: A section of Florida Blanca Place near Brooks Street in Fort Walton Beach is temporarily closed beginning April 13. The closure will allow crews to perform drainage work and roadway reconstruction. Drivers will be detoured via First Street and Brooks Street, with signage in place. Access to nearby businesses and properties will be maintained.

Additional lane closures in Okaloosa County are scheduled for the week of April 13 through April 17, primarily between the hours of 8 or 9 p.m. and early morning:

  • U.S. 98: Alternating lane closures between Ferry Road and Pier Road for utility work and paving.

  • Santa Rosa Boulevard: Lane closures east of Amberjack Drive to Ross Marler Park.

  • I-10 Resurfacing: Alternating lane closures between mile markers 50 and 56, west of Yellow River to east of Shoal River, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

  • U.S. 98 Resurfacing: Intermittent closures between Josie Road in Mary Esther and Florida Place Southeast in Fort Walton Beach for paving and striping.

  • State Road 85 Improvements: Lane closures between Hospital Drive and U.S. 90 for concrete and guardrail work.

  • Mid-Bay Bridge Rehabilitation: Lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. as crews continue construction activities.
